John Hunter, Executive Director of the Tuscola County Community Foundation, is pleased to announce the TCCF has granted a $500 Founders Fund grant to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society. This grant was used in conjunction with other funds, to secure critical repairs for the building flooring joists.
The Millington-Arbela Historical Society was founded in 1991, and incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 1995 after purchasing a building in the village to establish a museum. That building, at 8534 State Rd was built in 1887 of fieldstone, and had been the former Millington Bank. It is a now a registered historical site. The museum maintains records of obituaries, cemetery burial records, local family histories, school yearbooks, plat books and local newspapers. In fall of 2019, the TCCF Board of Trustees voted to modify the application procedure of the Founders Fund and create community “impact grants” to non-profit organizations. These grants are $500 each and the application cycle is open throughout the entire calendar year (dependent upon funds available to grant). Grant applications that are supporting a new start up program or project will receive priority. Applications are available at www.tuscolaccf.org under the Grant Application drop down section.
